Zz Packer
ZZ Packer The Alternative Master Narrative ââ¬Å"By our second day at Camp Crescendo, the girls in my Brownie troop had decided to kick the asses of each and every girl in Brownie Troop 909â⬠(Packer p. 1). Not exactly how one would think a brownie girl would act, but thatââ¬â¢s the trope, author ZZ Packer sets in every one of her stories, in Drinking Coffee Elsewhere. Like most authors, ZZ Packer has her own style of writing. She uses similar patterns and techniques throughout her collection of short stories.I will look at two of her stories and how they relate to her style of writing. ââ¬Å"Browniesâ⬠is a story that many people of cultural value can relate too. This short story has many moral values in it. Brownies takes place at Camp Crescendo, a summer camp for fourth graders near the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. The story is told in first person by an African American girl named Laurel, also known as Snot. On the second day of camp Laurel announces to all the gir ls in her Brownie Troop that they were going to ââ¬Å"kick the assesâ⬠of every girl in the troop, who were all white girls.The black girls disliked the white girls the minute they saw them. There ringleader Arnetta, said they smell ââ¬Å"like chihuahuas. Wet chihuahuasâ⬠(Packer p2). The black girls have seen whites before, but theyââ¬â¢ve never really had much to do with them. Being at the camp with them was the closest encounter theyââ¬â¢ve ever had. which made it realistic and hard to not have any hatred towards them. This story is one of Packers most obvious labels that she usually talks about.As the story goes on, it follows another patten how the narrator of the story Laurel is a loner. Ever since the first grade she has always gotten made fun of, and got the nickname ââ¬Å"Snotâ⬠. ââ¬Å"The Ant of the Selfâ⬠is another story that Packer talks about. It follows the themes of blacks to minorities, the presence of blacks on the east coast, and the main character Spurgeon is a ââ¬Å"lonerâ⬠. The Ant of the Self is a story about Spurgeon, the intelligent son of Ray Bivens Jr.Throughout the story he finds himself carrying the burden of supporting his self centered father on his shoulders. Ray doesnââ¬â¢t know the true meaning of an intimate relationship and is oblivious to his own sonââ¬â¢s needs. When thinking about a father son relationship, you would imagine love, respect, laughter, and support, but when it comes to Spurgeon and his father, their relationship can be described as a business transaction. Spurgeon always supports his father, whatever it may be and he never gets any acknowledgement from his father for being there.In the beginning of the short story Spurgeon bails his father out of jail with money that he earned, and instead of his father showing appreciation or thanking him, he tells him ââ¬Å"Opportunities. Youââ¬â¢ve got to invest your money if you want opportunitiesâ⬠(Packer p82). The car ride home his Spurgeonââ¬â¢s father thinks of ways of making fast money, and comes up with an idea. Spurgeon tries telling his father that itââ¬â¢s a bad idea, but of course he doesnââ¬â¢t listen. This story, like many others ends with a the lack of a ââ¬Å"happy endingâ⬠.

Take Me to Bollywood essays
Take Me to Bollywood essays So, it wasnt as bad as I thought it were. I used to think that as disappointed as I was with Philippine cinema I could always look at Bollywood movies. I considered any movie that had people breaking into song too bakya. My Asian Cinema class proves me wrong. Their movies are cultural fairy tales that maintain an air of dignity and sophistication without compromise. The first film, Lagaan, I thought reeked of those Indian films I skip on cable television. The 4-hour duration also left me very pessimistic but by the end of the first half, I didnt need the intermission. It couldve been any sports flick glorifying the underdog theory but with that Indian twist, it comes up more fun and amazing. The movie seems to have the tried and tested formulas of love triangles in an epic and panoramic landscape. A nice touch again would be the historical depiction of taxation without representation. The last scenes of the climactic cricket game are exhilarating. I find any movie good if I cant help but squeal with excitement. Monsoon Wedding would then have the Father and the Bride rip-off but still comes together with its ensemble cast. Tying the traditions to the modern-days reverberate and each character with his/her own story is not one strand out of place. I love these two movies. I want to have Bollywood-themed parties. I want to make a Bollywood film. My first taste of such a film was the westernized The Guru. But watching these authentic films gave me a huge rush. I cannot stand the feeling that there are much more films I need to watch. It is an amazing act that this industry can churn out more movies than Hollywood. I want to have an Indian Boyfriend with a British accent. I will watch him play cricket and we will sip tea in the afternoon. I want my children to have their eyes and noses. I am gushing like a fan girl but with a filmmaker perspective, I want to make quality Filipino films. These films are treme ...

Where to Find IB Chemistry Past Papers - Free and Official
Where to Find IB Chemistry Past Papers - Free and Official SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Taking the IB Chemistry exam will be a nerve-wracking experience, but having seen a real IB past paper before taking the actual test will be a huge advantage since you'll have experience with the test format, the length, and style of the test. In this article, I will show you where to find IB Chemistry past papers, both free and paid. I'll also share tips on how to study most effectively using these IB Chemistry past papers. Where to Find Free Tests The IB has been diligent about seeking out and destroying illegally uploaded official papers for the past few years, so a lot of sources that used to be out there are no longer readily available. Currently, the only free official IB Chemistry test legally available is this Chemistry HL paper 3. I have not been able to find any unofficial IB Chemistry past papers (ones created from scratch). If you find any, I strongly advise AGAINST using them, as they may be nothing like the actual IB Chemistry papers. Where to Find Paid Tests The IBO store sells IB Chemistry SL and HL past papers from May 2015 to November 2018. Navigate to the Diploma Program page, then click "Shop Exam Papers" to see all available papers, which can be narrowed by category and time frame. This is the only safe place to get IB Chemistry past papers to download. Each paper and each mark scheme costs $3.00. Buying all of the past papers and mark schemes can be costly, so if you are looking to spend as little as possible, I recommend just purchasing the most recent (November and May 2018) past papers as they will be closest to what you learned. 3 Tips for Using IB Chemistry Past Papers Productively Since each practice IB Chemistry exam will take you 3 hours for SL or 4.5 hours for HL, it's imperative that you get the most out of each test. Here are a few helpful practices to keep in mind when you're taking these papers: #1: Complete papers 1 and 2 in one sitting. The IB Chemistry SL and IB Chemistry HL papers are intense, forcing you to sit and concentrate for two hours for SL and 3 hours and 15 minutes for HL. You need to build up your mental strength so you don't make careless errors by the end of paper 2. By taking the practice tests in one session, you build up your mental strength in preparation for the real test. If you don't have time for a 2 hour or 3 hour 15 minute session, then you can take each paper on separate days. However, you need to obey the next rule: #2: Stick to the exact timing on each part of the exam. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you get used to the stressful timing of this test: IB Chemistry SL: IB Chemistry SL Paper 1- 45 minutes IB Chemistry SL Paper 2- 1 hour 15 minutes IB Chemistry SL Paper 3- 1 hour IB Chemistry HL: IB Chemistry HL Paper 1- 1 hour IB Chemistry HL Paper 2- 2 hours 15 minutes IB Chemistry HL Paper 3- 1 hour 15 minutes In this allotted time, you need to finish: IB Chemistry SL: Paper 1: 30 multiple-choice questions Paper 2: two parts, Section A: answer all of four short responses and Section B: pick one essay question (you choose between three options) Paper 3: Answer all of the questions for your two options: six short response questions that each can have between 2-5 parts IB Chemistry HL: Paper 1: 40 multiple-choice questions Paper 2: two parts, Section A: answer all of four short response questions that each can have between 3-10 parts and Section B: pick two essay questions (you choose between four options) Paper 3: Answer all of the questions for your two options: seven or more short response and essay questions (varies based on the options that you covered in your class) Do not practice with extra time- if you give yourself extra time, you can complete more questions and increase your score. We want to use these practice tests as realistic predictors of your exam score. #3: Check your answers. After you complete a practice exam, you need to review every error you made. Do not skip this step. If you do, you will not learn from your errors, and you will make the same ones on the IB Chemistry test. So make sure to spend at least 1.5 hours reviewing every full practice tests. This may seem like a lot of time, but emphasize quality of learning over quantity of learning. I'd rather see you take two tests with meticulous review than five tests with no review. Whatââ¬â¢s Next? Need help reviewing some chemistry concepts? Spike Lee's Malcolm X Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Spike Lee's Malcolm X - Essay Example Moreover, his life related events that comprise different aspects from his event filled life was going to get captivated within the framework of the reel life at a magnitude not witnessed by the audiences of Lee ever before. Within the insightful book Spike Lee: Interviews edited by Cynthia Fuchs in an article entitled ââ¬Å"Our Film is Only a Starting Point: An Interview with Spike Leeâ⬠by Gary Crowdus and Dan Georgakas, Lee explained his theme behind making a film on the life of Malcolm X, ââ¬Å"Lee explains his primary desire to introduce Malcolm X to young viewers and his awareness that the time limits of even a nearly three and a half hour movie prevented him from producing anything more than a ââ¬Ëprimerââ¬â¢ on one of the Americaââ¬â¢s most charismatic black leaders â⬠(Fuchs 65). With the level of severe intensity and depth, Lee made a film on the life of a man whose real life events provided the director with enough prudent aspects to frame a complete m otion picture. Thesis Statement The essay intends to depict an introspection based analysis of the film Malcolm X in order to comprehend the inherent themes and the socio-political and religious messages that were meant to be provided by this bio-picture. Malcolm X: Introspection Malcolm X was a movie which included a number of famous personalities such as actors Denzel Washington as Malcolm X and Angela Bassett, Al Freeman, Jr., Albert Hall, and Delroy Lindo. Lee also appears on screen and plays a very small role in supporting as Shorty who is observed to be a real-life associate of Malcolm X. Shorty Jarvis is actually a criminal who has spent time working with Malcolm and is at the same time a jazz trumpeter. It is noteworthy to mention that characters important in the real life of Malcolm X such as Bobby Seale who was the co-establisher of the Black Panther Party, Al Sharpton the Reverent and the future president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, have virtual presence within the pl ot of the film. However, they do not make any cameo appearances. There are vivid hues, sounds and fury which represent the life of the great leader. It was quite hard on the part of the directorial crew to transcript all those events inherent in the real life of Malcolm X to get depicted in the reel phenomena in the course of making the film. The screenplay of Malcolm X, which was a collaborative effort on the part of Spike Lee and Arnold Perl, was drawn mostly from the life events of Malcolm X. These events were mentioned in the book written by Alex Haley and entitled The Autobiography of Malcolm X. The reason behind taking most of the references from this book is that Haley had begun to write this book during 1963. He eventually completed the book following the death of Malcolm X. However, while initiating the project he directly collaborated with Malcolm X himself to write the course of events and facts which constituted the life of the great leader. Furthemore, the book is compr ehensive and very cohesive in nature apart from being one of the most authentic ones because it ponders on the complete course of events which constitute Malcolm Xââ¬â¢s life. The film possesses definite contents which are quite significant in terms of both cultural and historical aspects. At the same time, Malcolm X by Spike Lee is not a narrative on reels as it definitely has a strong aesthetic

Regulatory And Accreditation Body Paper Research
Regulatory And Accreditation Body - Research Paper Example Although there are several reasons why these organizations were created, the core impetus which inspired it is the assurance of public health and safety. Though the end point boils down to a common goal, the regulatory and accrediting bodies differ in their function and scope. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education--an accrediting body, and the National Council for States Boards of Nursing--a regulatory body, will be examined through their functions and scope in their paper. Regulatory Body According to Harvey (2004a), a regulatory body in higher education is ââ¬Å"an external organization that has been empowered by legislationâ⬠to take hold of the educational processes through restrictions and rules designed by the organization to maintain a specified standard. The importance of a regulatory body is nondiscriminatory when what is at risk is the common good. Habgood and Welter (2000) expressed the role of regulatory body through the regulations they make as ââ¬Å"[ass urance of] public protection by administering enactment of the passed law.â⬠In this note, one may say that legislations influence the regulations of the regulatory bodies in such a way that the public is given the most benefits. In the context of nursing education, where public health is the main concern, it is essential to be very selective of the persons of whom a license would be entrusted. This goes to the assessment of what kind of training a nursing graduate has and how equipped and worthy is he/she to become a ââ¬Å"registered nurse.â⬠Of the different nursing regulatory bodies, it is the National Council for States Boards of Nursing to perform this task. National Council for States Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Purpose. The NCSBN was founded in 1978 as a non-profit organization conceptualized by the American Nurses Association (ANA) Council on State Boards of Nursing. The creation of NCSBN comes from the realization that in order to fully concentrate on the safety of the public and assurance of a quality workforce of nurses, ââ¬Å"the regulation of nurses needed to be a separate entity from the organization representing professional nursesâ⬠(NCSBN, n.d.b). If such professionals would not be regulated, then public health and public safety would be jeopardized; an instance which NCSBN prevents. To materialize their goals, NCSBN formulated the Guiding Principles of Nursing Regulations which include: protection for the public, competence of all practitioners regulated by the board of nursing, due process and ethical decision making, shared accountability, strategic collaboration, evidenced-based regulation; response to the marketplace and healthcare environment; and globalization of nursing. Through their guiding principles, the NCSBN is able to regulate all aspects of nursing practice; from the selection of the human resource to establishing an above average competence which can compete globally. Ethical standards are also given emphasis to the benefit of both practitioners and clients, so that a balance decision-making, in case of alleged malpractice and such circumstances is assured. Scope. NCSBNââ¬â¢s primary roles are to provide rules, administer licensure examinations and regulate professional nursing practice. Since the NCSBN is state-based, rules may vary depending on the qualifications of the state (NCSBN, n.d.a); such as in each regulatory agency, ââ¬Å"the regulatory authority may vary according to the purpose of approval and the particular jurisdictionâ⬠(Bible et al. 2010). Licensure is the main task of the NCSBN;
